Thank you for your interest in protecting the whales of the St. Lawrence. In 30 to 45 minutes, you will learn how to safely operate your watercraft in whale habitat. As a recreational boater or paddle sport enthusiast, you are accustomed to encountering other watercraft and paying attention to weather conditions and obstacles on your course. You are familiar with boating regulations and comply with them.
However, navigating through whale habitat requires additional knowledge and increased alertness. In the Estuary, the Gulf and the Saguenay River, there are specific rules and regulations that govern how to navigate in whale habitat. Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Parks Canada, ROMM, and GREMM encourage you to complete this training to learn how to protect these marine mammals.
The content of the training is adapted to the type of watercraft that you will select following this introduction. At the end of the 3 modules, you will have a chance to take a quiz. If you pass, you will receive a certificate confirming your achievement and your dedication to whale protection. A supplementary “Bonus” module will help you learn more about the whales of the St. Lawrence.
Enjoy the training!
